Kalish Location in Iraq. According to tradition, Sheikh Adi is one of the principal judges of deceased souls. It contains the holiest temple in the Yezidi faith. At the end of the 19th century, the Ottoman governor ordered Lalish to be converted into a madrasa Islamic school. There is a recent mural depicting the Ezidi legend where Noah nearly perished when the Ark sprung a leak but a black snake plugged the hole, thus saving the Ark.

Another legend states that Shiekh Mend, a companion of Shiekh Adi and an earthly manifestation of one of the Seven Great Angels, turned himself into this black snake and drove back the tribe of Haweris when they were attempting to convert the Yezidis to Islam.
