I really have to see the checkerboard rendering in action before making any decisions, the guys or guy at DF said it looks good, not as sharp as the real deal, but pretty good anyway. I would be fascinated to find the trend obtained. It seems to be the logical step forward from the out-dated standard of p HD gaming in the industry, with 4 times the pixel density found in HD screens, games look a lot more crisp and real.

Now with affordable hardware coming out that can actually run games at these 18000p resolutions it made sense for Sony and Microsoft to jump of the 4k train. If you want the best, than native 4K is what you want. I’m guessing many of these games have a base resolution of p or p, then checkerboarded to p, then upscaled to p. Comparatively, a p screen at 24 inches has a recommended viewing distance for the image to be retina at 37 inches which is nearly 1 meter from the screen. It actually incorporates 2 forms of upscaling.
